How AI Can Be a Powerful Tool in the Fight Against Climate Change
This report provide an overview of the potential uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in combating climate change, alongside examining the key roadblocks that are preventing AI solutions from achieving impact at scale.
In this report, the scope of of AI also includes use of advanced data analytics to be employed as part of five key tasks: to gather and complete complex data sets on emissions, climate impact, and future projections; to strengthen planning and decision making; to optimize processes; to support collaborative ecosystems; and to encourage climate-positive behaviors. In these ways, it can help stakeholders—from businesses and governments to NGOs and investors—pursue a more informed and data-driven course, while offering them opportunities to create meaningful change in this critical moment.
AI for the Planet is an alliance created by Startup Inside, with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and BCG GAMMA as knowledge partners, in collaboration with four other organizations: the AI for Good Foundation; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT).
