Belen Martrat

Belen Martrat is ​​researcher at the Spanish Council for Scientific Research​ (CSIC)​, Department of Environmental Chemistry, Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDÆA). Based on the principle that the study of the past provides clues for the future, Belen’s research draws key evidence from sediments and stratigraphies to assess past climate change and their possible relationship with human needs for energy and resources.​

Belen is member of PAGES (Past Global Changes – funded by the US with the Swiss National Science Foundations and NOAA – is a core project of Future Earth and a scientific partner of WCRP). Belen is Ocean2k Steering Committee member within the PAGES 2k Network, which aims at contextualising marine climate changes in the past century within the broader perspective of the previous two millennia.​
