Rather than defining a single research agenda, Humanities for the Environment (HfE) has established six research ‘observatories’ - in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America - for Environmental Humanities Researchers. HfE has designed its website to enhance collaborative endeavors both in the expanding network of HfE Observatories and in new scholarly ecological digital humanities (EcoDH) communities developing around the world. HfE launched its ongoing 2.0 phase in May of 2015 and is expanding globally. In its first phase (2013-15), the project was piloted by members of the the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI) in Australia, Europe and North America. Funding was provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the CHCI, Arizona State University’s Office of the President and Institute for Humanities Research (IHR), and and The Humanities Institute at Wake Forest University.
