Stanford Energy System Innovations

Stanford has implemented a progressive new energy system that is economical and flexible to future changes in technology. The new Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) plan marks an unprecedented investment by a university in renewable energy supplies that are progressive, economical and flexible to adapt to future technologies while conserving energy.

SESI represents a transformation of the University energy supply from 100 percent fossil-fuel-based combined heat and power plant, to grid-sourced electricity and a more efficient electric heat recovery system. This new system, along with Stanford’s solar power procurement, is anticipated to reduce campus emissions approximately 68% from current levels and save 15% of campus potable water.
