Borneo is burning
This special report titled, 'Borneo is burning,' by Rebecca Wright, Ivan Watson, Tom Booth and Masrur Jamaluddin, CNN provides an interactive analysis of the wide ranging impact of illegal fires in the forests of Indonesian Borneo in the year 2019.
It throws light on how the world’s demand for palm oil is driving deforestation in Indonesia. Between August and October, the fires released 626 megatons of carbon dioxide, according to European Commission data -- more than the entire annual output of Australia.
This feature was divided into four chapters covering varying aspects of fire from its leading cause, impact on people and wildlife, and the legal safeguards.
